Operating or Starting a Business in Belize

Many of you are looking at Belize as a place where you can slow down and enjoy life more. Sleeping in late and lingering over your morning coffee, reading for hours in a hammoch while feeling the tropical breezes, enjoying a night out on the town listening to island vibes without worring about what time you're going to get to bed....these are things that many enjoy living the island life.

However, not all of you are looking to retire and "do nothing". While you certainly don't want to work the same way as you may be working right now you may want to do a little something down here to keep yourself busy and entertained, maybe even bring in a little bit of income.

Well, Belize is not only an easy country to immigrate to. But it is also an easy country to work in. You just need to know how. First, you can't just show up and get a job. That's illegal. If you want to work in Belize you need to obtain a work permit of some sort in order to work for an established business or you can buy or start your own business.

Some of my clients have started and are running small hotels, cafes, beachbars and retail shops. The easiest way to get in the game is to buy an existing business that is already up and running. But if you have an idea in mind that you specialize in and you see a need for it on Ambergris Caye than it may make more sense just to obtain the proper licenses to start and operate you own business.

While the details of how to do this change from time to time, this link will give a good overview of how its done. If you have any specific questions just let me know. I'll do my best to get the answers for you.
